If you’ve been holding off on buying a locally assembled (CKD) car in anticipation of price hikes, here’s some breathing room: the Ministry of Finance has extended the excise duty exemption on non-manufacturing costs for CKD vehicles until 30 June 2026.

This relief has been in place since 2020 to cushion the industry as Malaysia phases in a revised excise valuation framework. Without it, industry estimates suggest CKD car prices could rise by 10–30%.
